• Yoga adds flexibility and strengthens the joints of the lower body, which makes it a great addition to its hiking routine.
• Try these structured events in Los Angeles and Orange counties that combine activities.
• We have also found adjacent yoga classes, even in Runyon Canyon and Griffith Park, so you can plan your own training.
“Isn't this great?” Laurie Hang Hutter swept her arms through a strip of open green space near the hummingbird garden in Kenneth Hahn's state recreation area. Las Palmeras took balance in the distance and gave way to the clear views of the Hollywood sign and the mountains of the east of Santa Monica.
Welcome to Hutter's fresh air yoga study. A small group of us had just walked around two miles to this picturesque place, then our mats came out for the second part of Walk to yogaA monthly event based on donations organized by Hutter that combines a walk through nature with a soft outdoor yoga class. (The next class is February 15 at 8 am; register here).
During the next hour, Hutter took us through a series of vinyasa flow poses followed by a closed savasana (possessment) that increased the surrounding sounds of the birds singing and the skills whispered in the wind. We end with a synchronized yoga wave and a short walk back to the boulevard break.
Hiking and yoga have been my exercise activities for years. But I never tried to merge the two until recently, when a minor pain and hip turned the stretch into a necessary part of my routines previous and after the walk. It was not difficult to track Outdoor yoga events To the other South South of California (from roof garages to mountains), but I was also surprised class.

“It's a perfect combination,” says Gail Rudd, a voluntary yoga teacher with him Irvine Ranch ConservancyIt houses a variety of free yoga walks every month. “You raise your heart rate, heat your body and work your muscles during the walk, then use breathing and movement to relax, stretch and restore your body through yoga.”
Yoga adds flexibility and strengthens the joints at the bottom of the body, such as hips, knees and ankles, which can help with the balance of the legs and rocky ground, says Elena Cheung, a yoga instructor with headquarters with headquarters in Seattle and specialist in therapeutic movement.
“Yoga is a very complete practice with physical and mental benefits for athletes of all kinds,” he adds. “Excursionists tend to see a fairly direct correlation between yoga and the best hiking performance or injury recovery.”
As angels continue to process the unprecedented devastation of Eaton and Palisades fires, these local hiking and yoga activities can provide a respite of sadness and disbelief that many of us are experiencing. It is likely that everyone strengthens the sense of community that we yearn for at this time, as well as verification boxes on common new year resolutions, such as exercising more, reducing stress and spending time in nature. As an additional bonus, many of them are free or donations based.
Fitness walks with yoga
Registration for Irvine Ranch Conservancy is required for free yoga walksregularly held in Bommer Canyon, Quail Hill and other desert areas designated in Orange County. Classes are often filled, but there is a waiting list that allows you to place if someone cancels.
A recent walk from Friday morning through Bommer Canyon, near UC Irvine, took us well above the sea layer on a crest path with limited public access. After a moderate five -mile walk, we settled with towels and mats under a pavilion on the renewed grounds of the cattle camp operated by Irvine Co. for much of the twentieth century. The Yoga instructor Rudd likes to attract attention to the cowboy roots of the area and remind the participants that the site where they are used once to inoculate, disinfect and mark the cattle.
“Asked [them] To try to imagine what the cowboys would think of us doing yoga there, ”she says.
The soft stretching and poses led by Rudd served as an ideal cooling for our moderate walk. Equally impressive was the environment: an elegant canopy of sicomore trees, infinitely more relaxing than smoking wall mirrors of a typical yoga study, framed on one side of the pavilion and helped me concentrate and keep my stable poses.
Yoga near paths
Yoga has been an accessory at the Runyon Canyon Park base in Hollywood since 2000. Instructor Daniel Overberger leads the donation classes Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning on a fenced grass surrounded by mature trees. (The rain sometimes cancels the class; verify here for updates.)
Overberger describes it as “a basic class of flow-Savasana with a lot of warrior 1 and 2”, which ends in seated poses that work the core of the body. I found myself focusing on a couple of giant palm trees while the birds sang and conversations off passers -by provided background noise. It is a unique experience that attracts tourists, industry professionals, hikers and dog walkers. (A regular joins out of the fence while his dogs rest in the shade).
There is no organized walk associated with the class, but then I saw several participants enjoying the popular 2.7 mile loop that begins close. (Professional Council: Allow a lot of time to park in this dense area or that the Zen environment will disappear before the first savasana).

After Emily Phillips Brinker's Saturday yoga class in Griffith Park, students sometimes walk through the nearby Observatory Loop Trail.

Not far in Griffith Park (which has reopened After a brief closure in the days after fires), the veteran Yoga instructor, Emily Phillips Brinker, leads the donation -based donation flow classes On Wednesday night and Saturday morning, near the statue of the bear in Fern Dell Drive and the happy boulevard. The Vinyasa class is designed for all levels, and hikers or parkgoers can borrow the additional carpets that you have on hand. “We practice under the beautiful trees while the squirrels have fun and soak in the benefits of nature while we move our bodies,” says Phillips Brinker.
Participants sometimes choose to walk the moderate path of the observatory loop to the Griffith Observatory after class, says Phillips Brinker. His advice: he leaves the headphones and uses the walk as an extension of the conscious movement that you just completed leaving you to host and appreciate the natural environment.
Beach yoga, ocean walks
Santa Monica Yoga studies to Laguna Beach offer regular classes in the sand, and free beach classes or donations based on Eventbrite and other platforms throughout the year. (Phillips Brinker brings its Griffith Park yoga class to the south to beautiful Beach once a month; check here for updates.)
In December, I joined a flow class directed by Soho Yoga In beautiful Beach after walking along the shore of the ocean for a fast mile. Initially he felt as the least challenging of all my yoga walks, but finally left me as energized and quiet as the others. Salado air increased my awareness of breathing, and the sand served as a soft and comfortable landing for my joints and my back. During the last savasana, he kept his eyes open and delighted in the simple act of seeing the clouds that change in me. Just make sure you bring additional towels and get ready to her.
