Honolulu-based Hawaiian Airlines accepted the first of 12 new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The 787-9 begins a new era for Hawaiian, sporting a 1-2-1 private lie-flat business class product for the first time.
The additional 11 787-9s are scheduled for delivery through 2027.
The Hawaiian Dreamliner aircraft will initially operate flights from Honolulu (HNL) to San Francisco (SFO) beginning April 15, followed by Honolulu-Los Angeles (LAX) beginning May 14 and Honolulu-Phoenix (PHX) beginning 15 th of May.
In the longer term, the 787s are expected to serve the airline's Asia-Pacific routes, including Seoul Incheon (ICN) and Tokyo.
The Hawaiian 787s will feature 300 seats, including 34 of the airline's new flagship Leihoku suites equipped with 18-inch inflight entertainment screens, personal power outlets, wireless charging and direct aisle access.
Hawaiian also currently operates 24 Airbus A330-200s, 18 new-technology Airbus A321 neos and 19 Boeing 717-200s for inter-island flights in Hawaii.
Last month, Hawaiian announced a boost to its upcoming summer schedule, including more flights between Honolulu (HNL) and Austin (AUS), Boston (BOS), Las Vegas (LAS) and Pago Pago (PPG), the capital of Samoa American.
The airline will also add a fourth daily flight between HNL and Los Angeles (LAX) from May 24 to September 2.
