Great British Rail Sale offers discounts on more than a million train tickets – Business Traveler

The Great British Rail Sale returns for a second year, offering up to 50 per cent off more than one million train tickets.

The promotion applies to selected early and off-peak train travel across England and Wales, as well as cross-border travel to Scotland, for tickets purchased before 29 January and for travel between 30 January and 15 January. of March.

The Department of Transportation said “there are only a limited number of tickets available and no more tickets will be offered for sale once they are sold out.”

The DfT also gave several examples of discounts on typical advance-purchased tickets, including Birmingham to Bristol for £15.30 (normally £30.60), Manchester to Leeds for £4.30 (normally £8.60) and Leicester to Sheffield for £3.60 (normally £7.30). ).

Data from a survey by the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) and scaled using data from YouGov shows that last year's sale saved passengers around £7 million on train tickets and encouraged around 70,000 adults who had not traveled by train since the Covid-19 pandemic to take a trip.

The Great British Rail Sale follows state rail operator LNER's recently announced pilot program to simplify fares by reducing the number of ticket types and launching a new 70-minute Flex ticket.
