Airports Council International (ACI) World has released a new report forecasting air passenger numbers and major markets for air travel demand over the next 30 years.

Commenting on the news, ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira said:

“Projections indicate that global passenger traffic will reach 9.7 billion by the end of 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, and suggest a doubling by 2042 and a 2.5-fold increase by 2052.

“Over the long term, global passenger market dynamics are expected to shift from advanced to emerging and developing economies as they experience significant increases in urbanization and population, often combined with rapid economic growth that will favorably impact their disposable income and your willingness to travel.

“Responsibly investing in current and new infrastructure remains key to ensuring we can sustainably meet capacity growth to maximize the social and economic benefits of aviation.”
