Fun Sunday in LA with Tinx

From a very early age, Christina Najjar, better known by her nickname Tinx, remembers the weight that “Fright Sundays” had on her home. “I remember my father was a little stressed and it was the day when we all went to bed early because we were preparing for the week,” she says.

Now that she's an adult, she's determined to get Sundays back.

On Sunday Funday, Angelenos share step-by-step what their ideal Sunday in the city would look like. Find ideas and inspiration on where to go, what to eat, and how to enjoy life on the weekends.

“It’s literally half of your weekend, so you need to flip it,” says Tinx, a content creator and author of the New York Times bestseller “The Shift: Change Your Perspective, Not Yourself.” “I feel like people like Fridays a lot more than Sundays, but I hate the idea of people wasting their Sundays dreading it instead of enjoying their day off.”

Since launching her first TikTok about four years ago, Tinx has amassed roughly 1.5 million followers who tune in for her satirical takes on rich moms, dating advice, daily vlogs, and recommendations on everything from sexy perfumes to local restaurants. Her fans often make videos of themselves trying their favorite dishes, like Carla Cafe’s tuna salad.

When she's not hosting her podcast, “It's Me Tinx,” on SiriusXM, writing a column for Grazia or DJing a party (a new hobby), she says her ideal Sunday includes spending a day at the beach with friends, drinking natural wine and ending her night with spicy noodles and a good TV series.

8am: Have an iced Americano with whole milk from Verve

I usually get up pretty early, even though I sometimes have a hangover. I get up at 8am, even though I want to sleep in. Then I gulp down water, that's the first thing I do. I read about that in Cameron Diaz's “The Body Book” and I've always thought about it since. Then I usually go to Verve for coffee. It’s amazing. Shout out to Mallory, a barista there; she’s seriously the best person. I like having local places to visit, especially if you live in a big city. It’s nice to have people you see regularly. Right now, I’m making an iced americano with some regular whole milk. Shout out to whole milk. We were so rude to it for so long and now everyone comes crawling back because we realized almond milk is made out of literal plastic or something. (Editor’s note: That claim is unsubstantiated, though some research says almond milk is not good for the environment.) Then I’ll start texting my friends, trying to make a plan for the day.

8:35 am: Quick and easy hike in Runyon Canyon

I try to go for a hike on the weekend. Even though it's a cliché, Run It's convenient, so I'll go there, listen to music on my wired headphones, and maybe plan my podcast that week. It's a really nice time to relax. Now I can do Runyon in 15 minutes. I do it the easy way, which is embarrassing, but I don't mind because I like paved paths. I'm an indoor cat, you know. I just go on hikes because I like to feel good vibes. When I see people climbing the rocks, I'm like, “You don't have to try that hard.”

10am: Refuel with a smoothie and breakfast burrito from Dialog

After that, I'm hungry. I'm not a person who can skip breakfast. I don't do intermittent fasting. One thing about Dialogue [Cafe] I don't want to say it's my fault, it's very, very popular. Honestly, I swear to God, you order your shake at the top of the mountain when you come down from Runyon. It takes them 35 to 45 minutes on a Sunday to prepare your meal. Or I order the Dialog Detox or the breakfast burrito with brisket. You'll have to order extra spicy ketchup. It's the bomb.

10:30 am: Get ready for a day at the beach

I usually go home and pack a bag for the beach. Then I go pick up my friends on the way to Malibu. Sometimes it takes over an hour to get there, so you'll need to have your playlist and conversation topics ready. We usually go to the beach. Malibu Tent, Soho Beach House or just to the beach, anywhere along PCH [Pacific Coast Highway] on the Malibu Strip. I feel like there are two types of people: those who like to get in the water and those who don't. I'm an aquatic creature, so I like getting in the water. I also feel like it's the most natural dive there is.

13:00 Lunch at Taverna Tony

My favorite place to go for lunch is Tony's Tavern to the Malibu TentThe best thing about it is the sauce. No one really knows what it's made of. It has bread in it and I think fish in it, but I don't care to know. It's delicious, it's free, and they bring you warm bread. And if you're on a low-carb diet, you can order crudités and they bring them to you for free, too. The food is very comforting and good.

3:00 PM: Cure my Saturday night hangover with snacks

At this point, you think, “Well, I'm already on the Westside. How about I go to Venice with my friends and we walk down Abbott Kinney and do some more window shopping, then stop in Gjelina “For a glass of natural wine?” Something effervescent. Something that is so fermented that it tastes like kombucha but is alcoholic. The designated driver (DD) will take us there. So, in Gjelina, you say, “Let’s have the sweet potatoes as a snack,” because it’s a bottomless pit day on Sunday. You’re hungover, so you’re also very hungry.

7:00 PM: Order some delicious spicy noodles at Night + Market

Sunday night can't end without some kind of spicy noodles, so on your way back home to the Beverly Hills, West Hollywood area, you tell your friends, “We should go to Night + Market. “If you have even 3% of a hangover left, Night + Market will cure it with their food. And it's really spicy, like it makes your eyes water. Have a cold beer with it. My favorite dish is pad see ew. I also like pad thai. Also nam khao tod, which is a crispy rice salad, and larb gai, which is minced chicken, but it's actually really spicy, even for me, and I love spicy food. Whether we eat our food there or at home really depends on whether we eat it.” [HBO] Max is doing his job and giving us something to watch on Sundays.

9:00 pm: “Never stop relaxing” with my friends

In our friend group we have a thing called “Never Stop Relaxing,” which means if you can make it last longer, you should. Half the time, I have my friends sleep over because I’m like, “Why do I have this house?” The point of living in LA is to be able to have more space than I do in New York. I’ll definitely be wearing some kind of mask on Sunday night because, you know, it takes away all the bad things you’ve done. Maybe I’ll hand out sheet masks. The perks of being friends with an influencer is that my spare room looks like a Sephora. We’ll also need a sweet treat. I’m obsessed with Donuts with sidecarbut that's not really a nightly thing so it'll probably be Go GreekWe will probably open another bottle of wine. We love natural wine like Jumbo Time Wines, which is an independent winery based in Los Angeles.

11:00 p.m.: Do “leg drops against the wall” before going to bed

I might go to bed around 11 p.m. Sundae School has a sleep gummy that I take and I listen to a meditation on the Calm app. I like the Lychee Dragon flavor. I’ll scroll through my phone for at least 30 minutes and I have to do 20 minutes of what I and my followers call a “leg-up-the-wall drop.” Basically what that means is you lay down in your bed and put your legs up against the headboard. I have to do this every day and it just wears your legs out. A lot of different cultures do this for different reasons and it really helps with stress. It’s the best.
