These are by no means comprehensive lists, but rather highlight reels: All places are handpicked by LA Times writers who spent months talking to residents, walking the streets, and diving into each place's history. Guides can change or expand over time, as can the neighborhoods themselves. And some regions may fall outside the technical parameters. Instead of relying on strict definitions, we wanted to celebrate all the gems—the restaurants, shops, theaters, outdoor spaces, monuments, and more—that make us love where we live.
