American Airlines presents updates to the AAdvantage program – Business Traveler

American Airlines has outlined a number of new and upcoming updates to its AAdvantage loyalty program, including the option to claim additional loyalty points by reaching select loyalty point reward levels.

The airline launched Loyalty Points Rewards in March 2023and members can choose from a variety of benefits including priority check-in and Admirals Club day passes when they reach certain levels.

Starting March 1, 2024, these will include the option to receive a 1,000 bonus loyalty points upon reaching the 15,000 loyalty point reward level, 5,000 bonus points upon reaching 175,000, and 15,000 bonus points upon reaching reach 250,000.

Also arriving in 2024 (but with no date set at the moment) is the ability to earn miles when paying in cash to upgrade to premium cabins, and the option to redeem miles “for upgrades with select partner airlines.” No information has been provided at this time as to which airlines this will involve.

And members with AAdvantage Platinum Pro status and above will soon be able to redeem miles for Flagship First Dining passes.

American is also moving to make more of its existing paid benefits only available to AAdvantage members. For example, starting later this year customers will only be able to purchase Admirals Club day passes or Flagship Lounge single-visit passes if they are Aadvantage members.

Starting this month, members will be able to cancel non-refundable Basic Economy domestic tickets and receive a partial Travel Credit, as long as travel has not started and the booking was made directly through AA.

And finally, starting March 1, only AAdvantage members will be able to request a same-day reservation for an earlier flight.
