Originally from Northern Ireland, Alastair graduated from the Scottish Hotel School at the University of Strathclyde and then began his career as a trainee sommelier at a luxury hotel in Scotland.
In 1996, he joined Four Seasons as a management trainee, rising from assistant manager to food and beverage director in iconic locations including Hong Kong, Maldives, Tokyo, Washington, DC and New York.
In 2005, Alastair was named Resort Manager at Four Seasons Resorts Lanai, where he spearheaded the opening of both properties on the island following a rebrand under the Four Seasons banner.
From there he moved on to general manager positions in the Maldives, Seychelles, Langkawi and Hangzhou.
Alastair has a long love affair with Japanese food that began during his first stay in Tokyo at a small robotayaki restaurant, where he tasted “the best onion ever – a feat unmatched by most Michelin chefs!”
“We are delighted to expand our presence in Japan with the Four Seasons Hotel Osaka, which is poised to become the city's premier luxury lifestyle destination. We have the opportunity to make a statement of excellence in this emerging destination and I am honored to lead the effort. Plus, I'm getting to build a team from scratch, which is incredibly rewarding,” Alastair said. “The Dojima area, where we are located, is full of small cafes and restaurants, hidden bars and fascinating historical sites. “Guests can enjoy the relaxed local atmosphere of the neighborhood while being just minutes from Osaka’s main transportation and business hub.”
Spread over ten floors of the One Dojima Project skyscraper in the Osaka shopping mall, the newly built hotel is scheduled to open in August 2024.
Hotel highlights include 175 rooms and suites; an exclusive Japanese-style floor with tatami rooms and suites; wellness facilities, as well as six food and beverage outlets including: sushi restaurant Sushi O; the exclusive Jiang-Nan Chun Chinese restaurant; drinking destination Bar BOTA; Jardine, an all-day French bistro; Cha, the tea room; and Farine, the bakery.
