Full spoilers follow. Agatha since alwaysThe premiere of two episodes of, Wandavisionand Doctor Strange 2Also included are potential major spoilers about Teen's true identity.
Agatha since always has made its fascinating debut on Disney Plus and, like many of you, I'm already caught up in its biggest mystery: who is Teen, the enigmatic character played by Joe Locke?
To no one's surprise, Marvel doesn't give us a definitive answer at any point in the series' two-episode premiere. In fact, the comic book giant goes out of its way to ensure that Teen's real name isn't revealed in the episodes “Seekest Thou The Road” or “Circle Sewn With Fate, Unlock Thy Hidden Gate.” Clearly, there's more than meets the eye with the particular Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character.
But, like any good detective, I have investigated Agatha since alwaysThe first two episodes of 's search for clues to determine Teen's true identity. I don't want to brag, but I think I've already figured out who he is, too. So, before you continue scrolling, here's your final warning: Potentially huge spoilers follow. for Marvel's latest TV show. If you haven't seen any episodes yet, read my Agatha since always Review them first and then submit them. Once you have completed both tasks, you should be able to continue without any problems.
What is Teen's real name in Agatha All Along? Is it Billy Maximoff?
Immediately after Agatha since alwaysIn 's debut, the prevailing theory among Marvel fans, myself included, is that Teen's real name is William “Billy” Maximoff. Yes, one of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch's twin sons who first appeared in Wandavision.
There are many signs that support this fan theory. For one, Teen wants to travel the dangerous realm filled with witchcraft known as The Witch's Path. People who successfully pass her numerous trials will receive a great reward once they reach the end. With Wanda seemingly dying in Doctor Strange 2As a final act, what better reason could one of her children have to successfully walk the Witch's Path and rescue his mother from eternal damnation?
That's not the only compelling evidence that Teen is actually Billy. Early in Episode 2, when he's having a conversation with Agatha Harkness, she asks him what his name is. Teen tries to tell her, but his mouth is covered by a spell of dark magic that prevents Agatha (and the viewers) from hearing what he's saying, or even reading his lips to figure out what words he's saying.
While we can't decipher her name, there are two clues that tell us about Teen's true identity. The first is the cursive writing in black ink that censors Teen's face as he answers Agatha's question. Depending on how you read it, it looks like a backwards “W” or “M,” which—surprise, surprise—are Wanda's initials. The other clue is more subtle, but if you pay close attention to the movement of Locke's mouth and jaw as he answers Agatha, it appears to say “Billy Maximoff.”
Additionally, in the comics, Billy is an extremely powerful being in his own right. You can read more about his origins and history in the comics in our Billy and Tommy Maximoff explainer, which also provides more details about their creation and roles in WandavisionAt his core, Billy is, like his mother, a formidable wizard who goes by the superhero moniker Wiccan. His abilities are seemingly limitless, and at various points in Marvel comics, he has been a part of superteams such as the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Young Avengers.
We already know that Teen is obsessed with the dark arts and witchcraft, and that he is a familiar, i.e. someone who acts as a traveling companion to witches. Evidently, then, he has the potential to become a sorcerer; all he needs is a push in the right direction to become a Wiccan.
If Teen is Billy Maximoff, how did he survive the events of WandaVision?
If Locke is playing an older Billy, it raises a big question: how is he alive? After all, as we already explained in our Wandavision Episode 9 Recap: Billy and his twin brother Tommy died (read: disintegrated) after Wanda came to terms with the grief-laden events she experienced in Avengers: Infinity War.
Essentially, Billy and Tommy were Wanda and Vision's made-up children, with the latter also being a fictional version of the deceased synthezoid Wanda created after his death in one of Marvel's best movies. So once Wanda made peace with the original Vision's disappearance, she didn't need a made-up family to keep her company, nor did she need to maintain her extremely powerful Hex spell that she accidentally blanketed the town of Westview with upon her arrival.
So if Locke plays an older Billy in Agatha since alwaysWe'll surely need a detailed explanation as to how he evaded certain death. Not only that, but we'll need answers to the following: how did Billy survive if Tommy didn't? Is it because of his powerful magical abilities or something else? If, at the end of The Witches' Road, he gains his own powers instead of being able to save Wanda from certain death on Mount Wundagore, can he use them to rescue her? And, if that's the case, will he be able to Agatha since always Marvel was finally created Young Avengers A film that could be inspired by the comic book story 'Children's Crusade', after years of rumors about its development?
The other option, of course, is that Teen is Agatha's own son, who died/was given up for adoption/became the rabbit Nicholas Scratch (delete as appropriate) and was reincarnated or took human form for unknown reasons. However, there is little evidence to suggest this is the case, especially in regards to the latter, as Agatha's pet rabbit (as seen in the main image for this article) is clearly still present in her standalone series.
For now, it looks like Teen will be Billy Maximoff. Hopefully, Marvel's Phase 5 series won't make us wait until its two-part finale for a definitive answer.
