WhatsApp is working to expand its Chat Lock feature, allowing you to sync all linked devices. So if you block a conversation in the mobile app, it will remain blocked in WhatsApp for web and Windows. It currently doesn't work that way as the other platforms are treated as separate entities.
WABetaInfo discovered this upcoming update after diving into the latest Android beta. They discovered a window with a line of text saying that WhatsApp took the opportunity to also close the chat room on a linked device. And to open it again, you will need to “use your secret code.” This “secret code” they are referring to is a recently released security feature that was added to the platform last November. Post continues with Let's say all the blocked chats will be collected into a list and to access that list you will need to enter your code.
Greater comfort and safety
The Chat Lock expansion accomplishes two things that we're big fans of. One: It makes WhatsApp more convenient to use as you don't need to lock the same conversation on Windows again. Simplify the process. And two: it offers the promise of constant protection across all your devices. This update, as WABetaInfo points out, will unify privacy management in the different forms of the platform.
The feature is still in development. It doesn't work in any way. Although judging by the image posted, the improved Chat Lock may be released to beta testers soon. It is not known if the same tool will be launched in WhatsApp on iOS. WABetaInfo doesn't say whether it will or not, however, it could only be a matter of time until we see it appear on iPhones.
Instant lock
In addition to the leak, Meta made a small update to WhatsApp that gives users a way to block others directly from the lock screen or chat list without having to open the text. Notifications will now have a Block option next to Reply. We don't blame you if you have no idea about this. The company did not announce anything on its social media platforms or its main avenues. Meta, on the other hand, made the revelation through a text message from the official WhatsApp channel. So unless you are subscribed to the channel, you won't know anything.
This patch is currently rolling out to the Android app. It is unknown if iOS users will receive the same tool. Meta hasn't said anything nor could we find anyone talking about getting the feature on their iPhone. So we reached out to Meta for information on whether there are plans to expand the screen lock tool to iOS. This story will be updated later.
