The Samsung Galaxy S24 line hit the market last month, but Samsung wants to remind new and potential Galaxy S24 owners that features like Generative Edit and Circle to Search are just the tip of the AI iceberg.
In a new blog post from Samsung President and Chief Mobile Experience Officer Roh Tae-moon (aka TM Roh), the company clarifies that more Galaxy AI features are currently being developed for compatible Galaxy devices.
“We are just getting started,” Roh writes. “While developing the Galaxy S24 series, we had many ideas and concepts that we wanted to bring to life. “Galaxy users will be able to enjoy more Galaxy AI features that build on these ideas and concepts over time as Samsung continually improves and grows the mobile AI experience.”
This is not new information, per se; Samsung executive Patrick Chomet previously talked about the company's big ambitions for AI when asked about his dream Galaxy AI feature. But Roh's claim that Galaxy users “will be able to enjoy more Galaxy AI features over time” will no doubt be a welcome reminder to Galaxy S24 owners of the longevity of their new phones (Samsung is committing to seven generations of operating system updates and seven years of security updates for each phone in the Galaxy S24 line).
Roh's blog post also contains a few snippets of new information. It confirms, for example, that Galaxy AI technology will soon expand to wearables, as well as other device categories in the future: “Some Galaxy wearables will use AI to improve digital health and unlock a whole new era of health experiences.” intelligent and expanded. . “Samsung will continue to enrich and expand Galaxy AI experiences across categories through collaborations with more industry-leading AI partners.”
Roh also explains the reasoning behind Samsung's decision to make Galaxy AI work through a combination of on-device and cloud-based AI. “It is important to raise security and privacy standards in this new era of data-intensive mobile experiences,” he writes. “That's one of the reasons we've taken a hybrid approach that combines on-device and cloud-based AI. In addition to ensuring seamless usability, this allows users to limit some features to work fully on the device, giving them greater control over what they do with their data.
“We remain committed to improving the security and privacy of Galaxy devices by providing users with transparency and choice,” concludes Roh.
So the future is bright for Galaxy AI, although it's worth noting that Galaxy AI features will only remain free for Galaxy S24 users until the end of 2025 (and different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties). As for how much Samsung might charge users to continue using Galaxy AI features after that point, the jury is still out, but Galaxy S24 owners can rest assured they'll be safe from Samsung's taxman for at least a year. least two more years.
