VMware is going back in time to launch its new SASE offering at Mobile World Congress 2024.
The company has introduced VMware VeloCloud SASE, a single-vendor SASE solution that brings together VeloCloud SD-WAN and Symantec SSE.
VMware acquired VeloCloud in 2017 and originally phased out the company's brand a few years later, but has now brought it back with the launch of a new SASE product.

Revealing the news in a briefing ahead of MWC 2024, Abe Ankumah, head of SD-WAN, Broadcom's software-defined edge division, said the launch would help customers modernize their underlying infrastructure while monetizing new services. .
He added that VMware's approach to the software-engineered edge has to focus on enabling right-sized infrastructure (in terms of reducing the technology stack), zero-touch orchestration (as edge locations are increasingly distributed and not always are constantly online), and network programmability (looking at the need to be agile and flexible when necessary).
Ankumah added that the motivation behind reintroducing the VeloCloud brand was because many of its customers and partners still refer to VMware's existing offerings as VeloCloud, even though the brand was previously hidden.
“The customer is always right, so let's reflect that and bring the brand back,” he laughs.
“The number of new use cases we can open up…has the full force of everything we're doing at the software-defined edge,” he added.
