After A tumultuous few months for SonosSpecifically with its app for controlling your connected speakers and soundbars, another bug-fixing update is rolling out. And if you’ve been experiencing rapid battery drain on your iPhone thanks to the Sonos app for iOS, this should be good news.
As confirmed by “KeithFromSonos” on Sonos RedditThe iOS app has received a new update. This one focuses on fixing the phone's excessive battery usage and on the previously promised commitment to improve stability by adding new products.
This happens just a few days later CEO Patrick Spence wrote a letter The letter apologizes for the app and its launch, promising to add missing features and regain the trust of its users. More updates are planned and lists what is being fixed and when.
There is still a long list of incoming updates
However, it seems that users have been vocal about their complaints about battery drain and the Sonos team has been working to fix the issue as soon as possible. And a good portion of people were happy to see it, with some even commenting that they had deleted the app due to their iPhone or iPad's battery draining. Others are still detailing issues with the app crashing and being unable to find Sonos systems, so there's clearly more work to be done.
The other issue that has supposedly been fixed with this latest update is improved stability when adding new products, such as the Era 100, the Roam 2 speaker or the Ace headphones.
Sonos is still working on future improvements and bug fixes, which are expected to arrive next week. Judging by Spence's note, August will focus on music library fixes, volume responsiveness, general UI improvements, and system-wide bug handling. Alarm improvements, settings changes, and restoring edit mode for queue and playlists are expected to arrive in September and October.
Sonos app version 80.05.05 is now available on iOS and iPadOS. If you've been experiencing issues, it's time to update and you should expect more updates in the coming weeks.
