Adele has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest continuous outdoor LED display.
Used during her now-concluded 'Adele in Munich' concert series, the temporary screen, verified on 23 August 2024, measured an impressive 4,159.7 square metres (44,774.6 sq ft) and was a prominent feature of her residency at Messe München in Germany.
This massive exhibit sits alongside other iconic large-scale displays including the Las Vegas Sphere, which features 1.2 million LED lights and a 16x16K resolution interior, and the 100-metre projection screen at the Gasometer museum in Oberhausen.
Pushing the limits
Designed in collaboration with Solotech, a Canadian audiovisual and entertainment technology services company, the LED screen for Adele's show had a unique wavy shape, described as resembling an unrolled scroll.
During the concerts, custom images created specifically for each song were projected onto the screen, enhancing the audience experience. The residency ran from August 2 to 31, 2024, in an 80,000-capacity open-air stadium. After the final show, the screen was dismantled and Solotech plans to repurpose sections of it for future installations and live events.
Guinness World Records judge Joanne Brent commented: “I was intrigued to see how such a wide, seamless screen would be used throughout the concert. The bespoke visual effects, tailored to each song, really elevated the performance and added an undeniable wow factor.”
“This Munich residency is unlike anything we've done before,” said Ian Woodall, director of world tours and special projects for Solotech.
“There was no blueprint to follow, no comparison, just possibilities. What makes this show groundbreaking is not just the record-breaking scale of the LED screen, but the innovative thinking that made it possible. This production redefines the way live entertainment can be experienced. Working alongside the visionary team at Adele and all the other top-tier suppliers, we were able to push the boundaries of what anyone thought possible. It's this spirit of collaboration and innovation that made the Guinness World Record for the Largest Outdoor LED Screen possible.”
