Samsung seems reluctant to increase the battery capacity of its standard flagships above 4,000 mAh. It reached that capacity with the Samsung Galaxy S20 before reducing it for the Galaxy S22 and S23, and then went back to 4000 mAh with the Samsung Galaxy S24, and we may also get that same 4000 mAh capacity with the Samsung Galaxy S25.
This is according to GalaxyClub (via GSMArena), which claims to have obtained information showing that the nominal battery capacity of the Galaxy S25 will be 3,881 mAh, which should translate to a typical capacity (the latter being the one that companies tend to to market with their devices). 4,000 mAh.
For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S24 has a rated capacity of 3880 mAh, so that value is almost identical as well.
As always with leaks, we'd take this with a pinch of salt, especially since the Samsung Galaxy S25 probably won't land until at least January 2025, so it's early to hear about battery capabilities.
Bigger than it could have been
Still, it's a credible claim given that, as noted, Samsung seems reluctant to go beyond 4000mAh. In any case, since Samsung reduced the capacity of some previous generations, there is a risk that the Galaxy S25 will have less than 4000 mAh.
So in that sense, a 4000 mAh battery would be reasonably good news, especially since we were quite happy with the battery in our Samsung Galaxy S24 review, noting that with normal use it would last a full day without problems.
But in some ways it would be disappointing not to see improvements here, and a larger battery would give Samsung fans one more reason to upgrade.
Hopefully at least a new chipset and software optimizations will lead to better battery life on the Samsung Galaxy S25, but early leaks suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (which will likely power the phone in at least some regions ) could consume more energy. than its predecessor, so that's a bit worrying.
We probably still have many months until we know for sure, but in the meantime, Samsung has plenty of other devices on the way, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, both of which could land as soon as July 10. .
