The Samsung Galaxy Ring is popping up everywhere as it prepares for its launch. Every day we learn more about Samsung's latest wellness device and now, thanks to a notable leak, we know what its charging case (supposedly) looks like.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring will likely debut officially in Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Unpacked, which historically occurs between June and August, but it's already been teased and we even tested a very early version in February.
Since then, details have been dropping left and right, and this latest leak gives us the best look yet at the ring's charging case.
Notable leaker Ice Universe posted this rendering on Chinese social media site Weibo, revealing an engagement ring-style box with a mechanical hinge. You can consult it in full at this link here.
It looks similar to the case used by Samsung for the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, except instead of recessed holes for the earbuds to sit magnetically, we have an internal node for the Ring to sit in, much like the charging unit for the Oura Generation 3 Ring.
Top that off with a light to indicate charging status, and that's all that's notable in the image so far. We assume the charging case has a USB-C port on the back and will come in various colors and finishes, just like the first rings we tested.
Analysis: Opting for a closed case is a smart decision
While it's unlikely (but not impossible) that Samsung superfans will propose with smart rings anytime soon, an earbud-style case instead of Oura's exposed nodule is a smart choice. If you're carrying the ring while in transit, keeping it safe in a closed case is much easier.
However, does Samsung really expect people to take off and charge the Ring often enough for this to be justified? While we expect it to rival Oura and have a battery life of up to seven days, we still don't know what the Galaxy Ring will be capable of.
It'll have to last at least five days of constant use to compete with the best smart rings, but we'll know more for sure when Samsung decides to formally introduce the Galaxy Ring.
