We're about a week away from the official launch of the Nothing Phone 2a, but that's not stopping Nothing from revealing details and glimpses of the device, the latest being the first in-person presentation of the Phone 2a hardware against the backdrop of MWC 2024.
While the company has no presence at the 2024 international trade show, that hasn't stopped it from attracting much of the global consumer technology press to witness the reveal of the Phone 2a; a reveal that comes just a day after the company's virtual reveal that used augmented reality that was shared online.
The Phone 2a is a more affordable entry in the series and the third phone from Nothing; looks to bring some of the series' now iconic transparent design, Glyph lighting, and distinctive Nothing OS user experience to a broader audience.
In person, the Phone 2a presents itself with the company's signature clean aesthetic, sporting a presumably plastic frame (no doubt in the pursuit of greater affordability) that wraps around the sides; unlike the Nothing Phone 1 and Nothing Phone 2, which use a contrasting metal frame along their respective boundaries. The combination of the phone's width and thickness are a small cause for concern on a device with a supposedly large 6.7-inch display, but we'll reserve judgment for our full review, post-launch on March 5.
The phone's twin rear camera sensors sit proud and central, surrounded by just a trio of Glyph lighting strips, marking the most modest example yet of the series' various LED systems. A flat cable design element runs along the rest of the back of the phone, although unlike the Phone 1, it sadly doesn't look like an elephant.
All about contrast
On closer inspection, the white model shown here comes with black buttons embedded along its side, while a rare look at the front of the phone reveals a centrally located punch-hole selfie camera, placed on a flat screen .
Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis hosted the reveal and also walked around the venue afterwards, brandishing a black and white Phone 2a, confirming suspicions about whether the 2a would follow in Nothing Phone's first or second footsteps, regarding adopt a black or gray. finish.
Nothing revealed anything more than was already known at the event, with MediaTek's Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset said to live at the heart of the 2a, while other leaks and rumors point to two RAM and storage variants and a price €400 (about $435/£). 340 / AU$665). Fortunately, we don't have long to wait to fill in any of the remaining blanks hanging over 2a, if Nada doesn't spill before March 5.
