A24 makes some of the best horror movies with recent titles like Hereditary and Beau is scared exploring themes related to complicated families, especially when it comes to mothers, and it seems that his next film The front room will follow in his footsteps through a new trailer.
He New movieThe official trailer for (see below) focuses on a young couple forced to take in her husband's estranged stepmother, but unwanted guests are a nuisance and this one is no exception. We are introduced to Belinda (Brandy Norwood), who learns that her husband's father died in an accident, and one of her last wishes was for her wife (played by Kathryn Hunter) to move in. with her son if something happened to him. Belinda and her husband are not enthusiastic about the idea, but they soon realize that if they do not welcome her mother-in-law into her home, her husband will be excluded from her will.
While it may seem a bit inconvenient, there's a lot more going on here and it's starting to get very A24 with creepy visuals everywhere. The couple discovers that she is hiding some pretty dark secrets and that she is incredibly selfish and rules the house.
What do we know about The Front Room?
The front room hits theaters on September 6, 2024. While it's too early to reveal an official streaming release date, we can assume it will arrive on max. given A24's multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. Once we have some clarity on this, we will update you.
The film is the directorial debut of Max and Sam Eggers, and if you're thinking “wait, that name sounds familiar,” you'd be right. They are the brothers of Robert Eggers, known for his work on The witch and The lighthouseand it seems that the three brothers are horror fans.
Although they have a different style. The front room is very much a modern horror that plays with some religious and occult tropes, as we see the mother-in-law behaving very strangely throughout the trailer. Belinda is also pregnant with the couple's first child, so expect motherhood to be a very prominent theme in this one.
