The GSMA Board chooses Ralph Mupita as a new attached chair


The GSMA Board names a new attached chair to serve until the end of 2026

3RD April 2025: The Board of Directors of GSMA has chosen Ralph Mupita as vice president of the rest of the term of the Board, until the end of 2026. In this role, it will support the President and the Board to supervise the strategic direction of the organization, which represents the world's mobile operators and companies in the broader mobile ecosystem.

Vivek Badrinath, general director of the GSMA, commented: “My warmest congratulations to Mr. Mupita for being chosen as vice president of the GSMA Board. His experience will be invaluable as we continue to browse the dynamic panorama of our industry. I hope to work closely with him and the Board.. “

Mr. Mupita said: “This appointment is a great honor, since it occurs at a time of rapid developments in technology and increases digital adoption in Africa. Mobile technology will play a critical role in addressing the pressing challenges facing our communities and unlocking the entire potential of Africa and the rest of the global south, ensuring that no one is behind in this trip to a more connected future.”.

Mupita is the president of the Group and CEO of MTN Group, a position that she held since September 2020, after serving previously as financial director of the MTN Group of April 2017. Since she joined MTN, she has helped strengthen the formulation of the position and financial strategy of the group and supervise the successful list of MTN subsidiaries in Ghana, Nigeria, Ruanda and Uganda.

Before joining MTN, Mupita was CEO of former emerging mutual markets, providing financial services solutions to individuals and companies from 19 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. It has a BSC. Engineering (Hons) and MBA of the University of Cabo Cape and has completed the General Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
