To commemorate World Sleep Day 2024, Anker's Soundcore has announced a new and improved set of sleep headphones. The Sleep A20 true wireless earbuds are on the way and come with a number of improvements over their predecessor (the 2022 Sleep A10 earbuds). The brand promises greatly improved noise isolation, longer battery life, and some new features you don't usually find in the best headphones, like an alarm and sleep tracking through a companion app.
From the outside, the A20 looks similar to the A10, with an ergonomic design and suitable for side sleepers. Inside, however, there are new patented 'Twin-Seal' ear tips that Soundcore claims are three times more effective at blocking sound than traditional ear tips.
Although it's not active noise cancellation, Soundcore says the seal is so effective that it will even block out the sounds of “sawing wood, chopping logs, or grinding gravel” on the other side of the bed. If your partner isn't into late-night DIY, the A20s will also take care of more typical nighttime annoyances like snoring or traffic.
If you're worried, as you well might be, that such an effective sound blocker might mean you miss your morning alarm, Soundcore has fixed the problem by adding an alarm feature, which is also beneficial for couples operating on different sleep schedules. sleepy and need an alarm clock. call that won't disturb a happily sleeping bedmate.
If you don't want to sleep in complete silence, the A20s have a built-in library of ambient sounds and white noise. which can be accessed while the headphones are in their low-battery “sleep mode.” Alternatively, you can connect to Bluetooth to listen to your favorite sleep podcast, audiobook, or Spotify playlist through your phone. Battery life has also been improved compared to the first-generation headphones, with up to 14 hours of playback in sleep mode or up to 10 hours when using Bluetooth.
Like the A10, the A20 has a much more compact design than one of the best wireless headphones. They will tuck perfectly into the user's ear without protruding outwards, making them suitable for side sleepers. To further increase comfort levels, Soundcore has added a soft silicone cover on all parts that come into contact with the ear. If one falls out during the night, a new “find my headphones” tone means you won't have to spend the morning searching through the sheets trying to locate it; Hopefully, it will also make it less likely to inadvertently end up in the washing machine.
A final interesting addition is automatic sleep monitoring, accessible through the Soundcore app (available for iOS and Android). We're interested to see exactly what will be included and whether this in-ear solution can compete with today's best sleep trackers. I can offer.
The Souncore Sleep A20 headphones will be available for pre-purchase via Kickstarter and are scheduled to go on sale on Amazon and Soundcore in mid-to-late May, retailing for USD $149.99 / GBP £119.99 / EUR €149 .99.
