Titan Forge Games has confirmed that its beloved free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) Hurt will remain playable as long as fans want to play it, even after the next release of Hurt 2.
Hurt 2 was announced today (January 12) and promises big improvements to its visuals, revisions to its playable characters, and much more. Alpha playtesting is currently planned to begin this spring, so presumably players will be able to dive in within a few months.
In a press conference attended by TechRadar Gaming (TRG), it was clarified that there is still a dedicated (albeit smaller) team working on Hurt while other developers focus on the sequel. That being said, no new gods (playable characters) will be added to the original after the upcoming issue #130.
Additionally, speaking to TRG, Titan Forge Games states that “they are different games and we intend to continue treating them as different games.” HurtExecutive producer Alex Cantatore explains that while the existing Hurt The player base enjoys “very advanced features.” Hurt 2 offers an opportunity for the team to “reestablish that level of complexity.” With the sequel, the developers can focus on making “some core things on the map as interesting as possible, without just layering them more and more.” He adds: “It's a slightly different design philosophy between the two games.”
Furthermore, Cantatore tells us that much of the decision to keep Hurt running was to ensure the team “truly respected our players and the time, money and attachment they have” to the original. Plus, ultimately, the developers “want to make sure players are happy.”
“If you want to continue playing Hurt 1, it's great that you can keep doing it for as long as you want,” he explains. “Especially if you have a PS4 and you can't afford a PS5or you have an older PC, you know, we want to make sure there's still a Hurt for you to be able to go out and play. And some people will prefer that.”
Hurt 2 is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series|S.
