Jussi Markkanen, the technical director of the next multiplayer pirate adventure game Skull and boneshas revealed some of the ways the game will take advantage of the PlayStation 5's hardware features.
In a recent interview published in the official PlayStation BlogMarkkanen explained that the unique features of the DualSense wireless controller will help improve the combat experience. “Naval combat really comes to life with the DualSense […] when adaptive triggers are used,” Markkanen said.
“From marine fires and giant ballistae to rocket launchers and mortars, you'll be able to experience different trigger pulls when firing a variety of different weapons.”
This concept will be immediately familiar to anyone who has played other recent PS5 titles. Skull and bones Ubisoft publisher (as Very far away 6 either Assassin's Creed Mirage) who have often made extensive use of adaptive triggers.
Markkanen went on to say that “the controller also rumbles in specific locations based on where your weapons fire and where you take damage,” which certainly seems like an intriguing way to improve immersion through rumble vibration.
Skull and bones It will also feature 3D audio for those using any of the best PS5 headsets that support it. In addition to helping you locate incoming fire by simulated steering of audio signals, it will allow you to better hear the exact origin of the orders shouted by your crew. Additionally, Markkanen added that the game will feature “30 shanties” for your team to sing in a variety of languages so you can appreciate them in all their glory.
In terms of overall performance, the interview confirms that the game will run at 4K resolution and a target frame rate of 60fps, and that the PS5's “ultra-fast” SSD storage helps reduce loading times.
While this all sounds like a perfect way to use the power of the PS5, we'll have to wait and see the performance for ourselves when Skull and bones launches on February 16, 2024.
