The Samsung Galaxy Ring will be available to buy starting July 24, and if you're thinking about getting the new wearable, take note of some official advice issued by Samsung: avoid magnets and lifting weights.
As spotted by SamMobile, the Galaxy Ring's support page offers a few tips for getting the most out of it. Some of them are pretty obvious: for example, high-speed water sports and pressure washers can test the Ring's water resistance to the limit.
You may not have thought about other features. Samsung says that “certain features, such as step counting, may not work properly if you hold a magnet or magnetic object on the hand wearing the ring,” so it's best to keep your collection of magnets at a safe distance.
Samsung also recommends removing the ring during “exercises that use machines,” particularly weights, dumbbells and iron bars, as “they could cause hand injuries.” It is also advisable to avoid wearing metal rings on the same finger or on fingers adjacent to the Galaxy Ring.
First impressions
There are many other useful tips on the support page and we recommend reading it in full if you are going to buy one. There are also tips on how your activities can affect the battery life of the device.
We can't find any mention of magnets in the Oura Ring's help pages, but there is a recommendation to “consider removing” the ring in situations where there is friction, and weight lifting is mentioned as a specific example.
While our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Ring is still in the works, we've already spent some time with it and can report that it's been a largely impressive and positive experience so far, though there's still more testing to be done.
The device will set you back $399 or £399 (around $750 AU, though the Australian price hasn't been confirmed yet). We'll send you a sizing kit before we ship the ring to make sure you choose the right size for your finger, and as mentioned, shipping is expected on July 24.
