Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked events are used as major product showcases for the South Korean electronics company, and are often seen unveiling next-generation Galaxy and foldable phones, as well as smartwatches, headphones and more.
The first Unpacked of 2024 begins on January 17, where we expect to see the reveal of the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra at the very least. There are also chances that the Galaxy Ring, Samsung’s rumored smart ring, will make its debut, as well as updates for devices like the Galaxy Buds 2.
But Unpacked also acts as a sort of weather vane for Samsung’s direction of travel in consumer technologies, and with Samsung recently trademarking the term ‘AI Phone’, we can expect the company to tout a healthy dose of features and services powered by AI on January 17.

What could be revealed at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024?
We haven’t had official confirmation of what will be released in this Galaxy Unpacked on January 17, but from the rumors and teasers so far, it’s almost certain that we’ll see the new Galaxy S24 series, which comprises the standard, Plus and Ultra models.
But with Samsung touting a big push into AI, the exhibition is expected to have a strong AI element, with Samsung championing how generative AI (whereby AI algorithms are used to create content rather than simply disseminate it) can be Use with the latest Galaxy phone features and specification updates.
Read on for more details on what we think will be announced at Galaxy Unpacked 2024.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones
As sure as night follows day, we can expect to see the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra revealed on January 17. Samsung’s promotional material and discussions about its latest Exynos 2400 chip point to new Galaxy S series phones being launched. shown at Unpacked 2024.
Based on the rumors and tips so far, we can expect the hardware upgrades on the Galaxy S24 phones over their Galaxy S23 counterparts to be quite incremental. iPhone 15 Pro-style titanium sides are angled for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, while more trimmed display bezels are expected for the standard and plus Galaxy S24 models; For more details, check out our Galaxy S24 Ultra design breakdown.
As for specifications, we expect the phones to have Exynos 2400 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips, depending on the model and region; See our roundup of Galaxy S24 spec rumors and Galaxy S24 Ultra spec rumors.
He Samsung Galaxy S24 Cameras These are expected to be in line with the above, but perhaps with some software updates to improve photo results. But it’s the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s cameras that are expected to see the biggest changes, with the phone rumored to ditch the 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom and instead opt for a 50MP camera with a 10x optical zoom. 5x optical and a 10x digital crop. could result in higher quality zoom photos even if the optical range is reduced by half.
However, it is in artificial intelligence where Samsung is expected to make big strides with the Galaxy S24 series. While many smartphones have taken advantage of machine learning and AI-powered technology for a few years now, notably the Google Pixel 6 with its Magic Eraser, these smart tools have served more to support and optimize actions, such as providing translations over the March. But the next step is to lean on generative AI, whereby algorithms can better learn about what you want and generate it for you, from art from words to vacation plans and answering calls for you.
With the AI Phone moniker coined, we expect Samsung to go big with AI as a new feature for the Galaxy S24 phones, probably with integrated AI action execution.
Samsung Galaxy AI
Building on the aforementioned AI phone technology, Samsung is likely to further defend its ambitions to offer “on-device AI,” whereby intelligent machine learning algorithms can be powered by a device’s chips instead of needing a connection to a cloud-based server. .
So we can expect great performances in how Samsung can use AI in Galaxy S24 phones, from improving phone photography to generating completely new images on the fly. But we wouldn’t be surprised to see Samsung reveal a host of AI-focused tools for its Galaxy devices as a sort of suite for productivity, organization, and entertainment.
We can imagine Samsung having developers come on stage to talk about how they integrated such AI tools into their apps. Or how these tools can be used to not only increase productivity but also make things like vacation planning much easier.
AI received a lot of attention in 2023, so we don’t expect it to go away in 2024, and an increasing number of tech brands are likely to lean into AI, with Samsung helping to lead the charge this year.
Samsung Galaxy Games
While certain models of the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra are likely to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, others, particularly those not in the US, are expected to use the Exynos 2400 chip. This would contrast with the Galaxy S23 series, as they all used Snapdragon silicon.
But while the Exynos chips have been seen as weaker slices of silicon compared to the Snapdragons, the Exynos 2400 appears to have earned some solid initial benchmark scores. However, its potential ace in the hole could be the Xclipse 940 GPU, which uses AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture that has been touted to offer “substantially improved ray tracing” and therefore better graphics and realism in the games.
Samsung has partnered with Microsoft before to help bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to its Galaxy flagships, so it’s no stranger to championing gaming on smartphones. With the potential for ray-traced gaming and high-end graphics, we could see the Galaxy S24 phones coming with impressive gaming abilities, perhaps hot on the heels of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with their A17 Pro chip, which also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and can power console-quality games like Resident Evil 4 Remake.
So at Unpacked 2024, Samsung could use part of its showcase to tout the power of the Galaxy S24 phones as gaming devices that can deliver similar experiences to the latest consoles. That’s been a promise of many smartphones and mobile games for years, but it hasn’t come true, so maybe Samsung can finally change that for Android phones.
Samsung Galaxy Ring
The Samsung Ring has been rumored for some time and would be the company’s first smart ring. And like others, it’s expected to have a fitness and wellness tracking focus, from helping monitor step count and distance traveled to measuring heart rate and monitoring blood pressure.
Since January is a time when many people start new fitness programs, it would make sense for Samsung to introduce a health-focused wearable. But the lack of recent rumors leaves us unsure if the Ring will actually appear.
However, Samsung might be doing a good job of keeping the Galaxy Ring under wraps for a “one more thing” style reveal at the end of Unpacked 2024.
Samsung Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch updates
A couple of outliers here, but there’s room for Samsung to reveal updated Galaxy Buds wireless earbuds at Unpacked 2024. Instead of offering a dramatic leap forward in design or audio quality, they could simply get a case with longer battery life or some new color. options to sync with what is expected from the colors of the Samsung Galaxy S24.
The same could be said for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6; We’re not predicting a new Galaxy Watch will debut on January 17, but the current model could receive a software update that introduces more complications and perhaps gains some AI features by linking to the Galaxy S24 phones. Some new strap options wouldn’t be beyond the realm of imagination either.
What is the Samsung Galaxy unpacked?
Galaxy Unpacked is the name given to the great showcase of Samsung products. Typically, these revolve around the new Galaxy S series phones and the Galaxy Fold and Flip series foldable phones.
But Galaxy Unpacked events are also used to introduce new Galaxy smartwatches and wireless headphones, as well as laptops and tablets. There are also nods to Samsung’s SmartThings smart home platform and its interoperability with the new Galaxy devices.
Generally, you can expect two Galaxy Unpacked events per year; one at the beginning, between January and March, and the other around July or August.
