The Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra have landed, and while the first two aren't as interesting as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, they still pack a range of impressive specs.
Those specs include a high-end chipset, although the exact chipset you get with the S24 and S24 Plus will depend on where in the world you are. If you're in the US, you'll get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, which is an overclocked version of Qualcomm's fastest smartphone chipset, while buyers in the UK will get an Exynos 2400 for Galaxy, which is Samsung's top mobile chipset.
So in any case, you can expect plenty of power, but if you're in the UK and want a Snapdragon version, you'll have to pay for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy everywhere. .
In any case, the standard Galaxy S24 is also equipped with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has 12 GB, which matches the Ultra. This can be combined with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage (UFS 4.0) in the case of the standard Samsung Galaxy S24, with 256 GB or 512 GB if you get the S24 Plus, and with 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of heavier storage if you're buying the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
It's not just the hardware that's heavy, either, as Samsung appears to have put a similar focus on the software and specifically the AI features. These run on the latest Galaxy S models and help with photo editing, live call translation, summarizing your notes, and more.
But we're only scratching the surface here. One of the key updates on these three phones is the screen brightness, as they all now have a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits, which is a substantial improvement over the 1,750 nits on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. That makes these screens clearer and easier to see in bright, direct sunlight.
In the case of the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus, you'll also get slightly larger displays this year, measuring 6.2 inches and 6.7 inches respectively, and the Galaxy S24 Plus has moved up from its predecessor's FHD+ resolution. to a QHD+ Resolution now.
The standard and Plus models also have larger batteries than their predecessors, at 4,000 mAh and 4,900 mAh, respectively. That's more than the 3,900 mAh of the Galaxy S23 and 4,700 mAh of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus.
There are no such updates for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has the same screen size and battery capacity as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. What the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra does have, however, beyond the brighter screen and faster chipset described above, is a new 50MP periscope camera that offers 5x optical zoom.
The rest of this phone's camera hardware is very similar to last year, but given that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra tops our list of the best camera phones, that's not a bad thing. For a deeper dive, check out our guide to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra cameras.
Sadly, the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus don't have this new periscope camera, and in fact their camera hardware appears functionally unchanged from previous models, although both phones now feature a new optical zoom 2x by sensor cutout. . They also lack the titanium frame of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (which is an upgrade from the aluminum of the S23 Ultra), and instead feature an 'Enhanced Armor Aluminum' frame that is reportedly 10% stronger . So the two cheaper phones should at least be durable, but they're stuck with less premium material than the Ultra.
