The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 has been widely leaked and is expected to be unveiled next week, but there have also been rumors about a “slim” version of the foldable coming later – and we may have just learned a bit more about that.
According to a report from The Elec (via Android Authority), the production schedule for this mysterious model has already been finalized and therefore the phone should make its appearance in the fourth quarter of the year (starting in October).
Not only is this model said to be slimmer (hence the “slim” moniker), but it’s also rumored to bring with it an 8-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover display. However, S Pen support has reportedly been removed, which helps with the slimming.
As our review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will tell you, this foldable device has a 7.6-inch main display and a 6.2-inch outer display. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is expected to be unveiled next week, will apparently stick with those sizes as well.
Is this the Ultra?
This is further proof that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is on the way, but whether or not you'll be able to buy it is another question. The Elec says the 400,000-500,000 units will only be available in select markets, with China being the only one specifically mentioned.
Other foldable devices on the market, such as the Honor Magic V2, have main displays closer to 8 inches in size, so this change could be seen as a way for Samsung to achieve parity with those phones. A foldable device of this size is said to have been in the works for some time.
Elec mentions that certain components are higher-spec on the Slim model compared to the main Galaxy Z Fold 6, but doesn't say what they are. It's possible that this device is actually what was previously called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra.
We should know for sure what this device has to offer later in the year, but first up are the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, which launch on Wednesday, July 10 (along with a bunch of other devices). We’ll be covering the event live, and you can watch along with us, too.
