The answers to today's Quordle, game #871, are…

RETRY is a bad word for a Quordle game, right? It contains a repeated R, which is not that uncommon, but it also has an E and a T in less common positions. It took me a while to find it, but that wasn't actually the word I struggled with the most; no, it would be MOUND.

MOUND is one of the worst formats you can get in Wordle/Quordle, because without that first letter you have many options: WOUND, ROUND, POUND, HOUND, FOUND, SOUND, BOUND, as well as MOUND itself. It's almost the worst of these words, I think only -IGHT (WIGHT, RIGHT, TIGHT, LIGHT, FIGHT, SIGHT, MIGHT, NIGHT, BIGHT) has more possible answers.

I took the safe option to solve it today, playing WOMBY to discard WOUND, MOUND and BOUND in one go, and managed to discard in MOUND instead.
