According to a new rumor, the PS5 Pro could have 2TB of storage and could run much quieter and cooler compared to the base model of the console.
As reported by Wccftech, on the latest Broken Silicon podcast yesterday (August 27, 2024), tipster Moore's Law is Dead claims: “I was shown a PS5 Pro dev kit.”
It goes on to say that it “has two terabytes of storage, but I can’t promise that will carry over to retail,” which makes sense since there’s no way to be sure that whatever is in a dev kit will make it to the consumer product, but it’s a whisper of promise as a default spec. It would also line up pretty conveniently with Microsoft launching a 2TB Xbox Series X later this year.
He went on to describe a key feature of the devkit in particular, noting that it had the “same two-pin power connector that the PS5 had.”
This indicates that the PS5 Pro isn't going to require a huge amount of power to run and shouldn't consume any more than its predecessor if you don't mind getting the same amount of power. Moore's Law then adds his own take on this detail, saying that he thinks it will “probably be a very quiet and cool running machine.”
We'd be very happy with both of those features on a PS5 Pro. Firstly, 2TB of storage would certainly give gamers a lot more room to store a lot more games by default without having to rely on external media, though we don't know how much additional storage any “PS5 Pro upgrade” of existing and future games might demand. And as for the latter, since the PS5 is known to blow a lot with its big fan, any reduction in noise and temperature is always going to be welcome.
This isn't the only PS5 Pro rumour circulating right now, as other pundits and commentators have talked about the console still being planned for release this year and what its price might be.
We'd like to add that the PS5 Pro hasn't been officially announced yet, so this information remains a rumor and is not confirmed at the moment. However, we'll keep you updated on everything PlayStation 5 Pro-related, so stay tuned for more information!
