The perplexity of the AI conversational search engine is speaking in its latest iOS update. The voice mode of the chatbot AI brings a new appearance and more natural voices to the application, along with some new interactive features. The update establishes the perxity application to better challenge rivals with their own voice options such as Chatgpt or Google Gemini.
Before this update, Perplexity's voice function was somewhat limited. I could read answers aloud but without much emotion and with a kind of Walkie-Talkie interface that slowed things. Perplexity has now added six different voices. While it is still a text system to voice, which means that it will not have the emotional nuance of the advanced voice of Chatgpt, the improvement is remarkable. Finally you can choose a voice that does not sound like an audiobook narrator of 2005.
So how compares perplexity voice mode against competition? From a non -scientific comparison, I would say that Chatgpt's advanced voice wins in pure realism, with an expressive sound, tone of conversation and surprisingly natural laughter and absolute interruptions. Google Gemini is a little less fluid, but it is still very natural in general. And although Google Gemini's voice is very good, it is a little less fluid than Chatgpt. Perplexity's offer is very clear and easy to understand, but their voices remain in the most neutral tone that sounds a bit more artificial. However, it is not negative, just a different approach. Instead of focusing that AI sounds human, it is doubling the utility and making sure that when you ask a question, you not only get an answer but also the sources to support it.
Perplexity's voice mode is also integrated into the other characteristics of AI. That means that the real -time search tool links to the voice mode. When you ask a question, not only get a spoken answer, you also see live search results, with links to the sources. It is a crucial skill since much of Perplexity's appeal is how AI combines with search capabilities.
