Generative AI models like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini have been around for a while and are slowly infiltrating various products, the latest of which is the Opera browser, which is getting Gemini-powered AI features.
Opera made an official announcement yesterday, explaining that it is collaborating with Google Cloud to improve its AI browser, Aria, along with its text-to-speech and image generation capabilities. Opera powers Aria using its multi-LLM (large language model) Composer AI engine.
Opera notes that Aria makes its browser unique in that the Composer AI engine doesn't use just one AI or LLM provider. The engine processes what a user would like to do while using the browser and chooses the best model for the task at hand, and Gemini is now part of the options that Opera can take advantage of in this way.
Opera is one of the most popular browsers, especially for one that is not a default or pre-installed application on an operating system, and has been incorporating novel generative AI technology into the browser for just over a year.
How you can try the new Aria AI for yourself
The problem here is that, for now, the newly improved Aria AI is only available in the Opera One Developer version of the browser, allowing users to try out AI's newest features and additions (including new imaging capabilities which include the Google Image 2 model). on the Vertex AI platform).
You can download the Opera One Developer version from the Opera website, but rather than trying a trial version of the browser, we recommend that you wait for the Gemini integration to arrive in the final version of Opera.
If you want to try an alternative to other more popular browsers like Google Chrome, Opera is a good option, especially since it is based on Chromium. Chromium is Google's open source engine, which powers several popular browsers, including Chrome and Edge, so you can easily import your history and favorites.
Even if you don't sign up to try the new version of Aria AI, the standard version of Opera and Opera GX (the game twist) already have AI-powered features and, as mentioned, the new Aria AI will. eventually in the standard browser (unless it is abandoned, which seems unlikely). Opera also offers other features that have given the browser a loyal fan base, including file management workspaces, sidebar functionality, and a built-in VPN.
