OnePlus explains why it won't match Samsung and Google's 7 years of software updates

OnePlus has chosen to offer comparatively less long-term software support on its latest phones, rather than keeping up with seven years of OS updates from its competitors Samsung and Google.

This surprising measure was discussed in a recent Interview with Tom's Guide with OnePlus COO and President Kinder Liu saying that offering longer software update policies “doesn't make sense” as extended support doesn't do much good if your phone's hardware is outdated.

This contrasts with the Google Pixel 8 series, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, which now includes seven years of operating system updates. However, OnePlus' latest flagship phones, the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R They seem to oppose this trend.
