NYT Strands Today (Game #72): The Answers
The answers to today's Strands game number 72 are…
- FRUIT
- COOKIE
- WALNUTS
- OLIVE
- BRIE CHEESE
- SALAMI
- SPREAD
- SPANGRAM: DELICATE
- My rating: Idiot
- My score: Two tracks
I have a few questions about today's Strands puzzle. Maybe this is a bit bitter (excuse the pun?), but it seems like a misconception to me.
First of all, why are some answers plural and others not? CRACKER is included in its singular form. Would you just put a cookie on a charcuterie board? The same goes for OLIVA. I highly doubt that any deli, in the history of deli, has ever featured a single olive. Which would be fine if they were all singular, but NUTS is plural.
Secondly, what is SPREAD? Cheese spread? Butter? What are you doing here? Is this a cultural difference between the UK (where I am) and the US? To me, the answers here seem like just a random collection of foods that you could put together if you wanted to. Why not add potatoes, porridge, roast pheasant or unicorn fillets? What is the connection here?
Maybe it was easier for you anyway. By all means, email me and tell me what I'm missing.
As was your day? Send me an email and let me know.
