NYT Strands Today (Game #97): The Answers
The answers to today's Strands game number 97 are…
- BEACH
- TO CAMP
- POPSICLE
- CARNIVAL
- LEMONADE
- HOPSCOTCH
- SPANGRAM: SUMMER
- My rating: Confused
- My score: Perfect
It is not the first time that this reasoning completely baffles me. For those of you who have come across this column for the first time, I am based in the UK and I accept that cultural differences between the UK and the US may explain my inability to understand what is going on here. Or rather, I will not accept it; It shouldn't be the case that the game is so biased towards one country. Yes, the NYT is an American newspaper, but the Internet is global and the entire Wordle phenomenon was largely based on the fact that it attracted people from all over. This… this is just strange.
Exhibit A: why is HOPSCOTCH here? What does that have to do with SUMMER? Does HOPSCOTCH mean anything different in the US than in the UK? And why is 'Beat the heat' the theme track? A POPSICLE could help you beat the heat, of course, and in fact that was the first word I found. But how does CARNIVAL help you beat the heat? OR CAMP? It's a strange mix of words. I figured it out, but I almost wish I hadn't.
