NYT Strands Today (Game #66): The Answers
The answers to today's Strands game number 66 are…
- BINARY
- WHOLE
- LUCKY
- BACON
- DANCE
- SERIAL
- PHONE
- SPANGRAM: NUMBERS
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: Perfect
I thought this Strands puzzle would be easy, but it's not. Theme track: 'Do you know how to encrypt?' (after 'Can You Understand It?' yesterday; good job, NYT) – I immediately suggested numbers and, in fact, found that spangram running back across the board almost immediately. BINARY and INTEGER, both below the spangram, were also simple solutions, and LUCKY continued by virtue of the fact that it could be nothing else.
But LUCKY indicated that it might be more difficult than he had predicted, and here I got stuck. Unlike the first pair, LUCKY is not a mathematical term (or not necessarily one), simply one that precedes “numbers”. And so it was with almost everyone else. It took me quite a while to find any of the others; I saw PHONE, but it didn't turn blue, and it was only a while later that I realized it was PHONE.
The others were all horrible. She wasn't thinking broadly enough to consider BACON or DANCE, and SERIAL just took too long because of all the vowels. I eventually got there, but it wasn't exactly an easy road.
