NYT Strands today (game #189): the answers
The answers to today's Strands game #189 are…
- LILAC
- MAUVE
- MAGENTA
- VIOLET
- PLUM
- LAVENDER
- ORCHID
- SPANGRAM: PURPLE
- My rating: Easy
- My rating: Perfect
Here's a nice, simple Strands puzzle for the weekend, which simply involves finding shades of purple. The “A Royal Shade” theme clue gave the game away, because everyone knows purple is the color of royalty (though I admit I don't know why). I then saw the spangram, PURPLE, as my first word, which was great as it split the board neatly in half and made it easier to find the other answers.
Admittedly, some of them were a little easier to figure out than others – I thought of LILAC, MAGENTA, MAUVE and VIOLET and found them pretty quickly, but I had to work a little harder for LAVENDER and (particularly) ORCHID, the latter of which didn’t strike me as a shade of purple – orchids come in lots of colours, after all. But when I got to that shade, there were only a limited number of words that could be made, so overall this Strands was a straightforward game.
