Thank goodness for Mad Men. I devoured the brilliant AMC show during lockdown, having somehow missed it when it originally aired about a decade ago, and without it I would probably have found today’s Strands series much, much tougher. As it was, I was reminded of the main character Don Draper’s favourite drink, and thus the OLDFASHIONED spangram.
Not that I knew the ingredients as such, but I remembered enough that finding BITTERS, WATER, CHERRY and SUGAR wasn't an impossible task. It might have been without the WHISKY, but thankfully the “On the rocks” theme track had put me on the path to finding that, making the whole thing more manageable than it would have been otherwise.

Strands is the NYT's new word game, following Wordle and Connections. It's now out of beta, so it's a full member of the NYT Games roster and can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
