Reading the thematic clue here, I got excited about a complex Strands puzzle that required some outside-the-box thinking. What could “S words” (a cutting-edge theme!) mean? Did all the answers start with S… but the S was missing? Were they all words whose synonyms started with S? Something even more diabolical? But no, they were all just types of swords. What a shame.
That became apparent as soon as I found CLAYMORE, after watching CLAY and realising I could extend it. After that, it was a simple case of searching my brain and the board for other BLADES (as the spangram would say), which wasn't a particularly demanding task.
How did your day go? Send me an email and let me know.
