How much time do you spend on Connections? Some days I finish in about 10 minutes, maybe even five if it's easy. But 20-30 is not uncommon, and today I was at the upper end of that range.
The yellow wasn't so bad; I saw COOL and SICK, then added NICE and SWEET to make “AWESOME!” group and show how depressed I am with the kids. Or rather, how down the NYT is on kids, because I don't think my teenage daughters would use any of those words that way. Then again, the words they would use can't be printed in a familiar publication like TechRadar.
After that, it was hard to move on. I found several possible pairs, but couldn't see any that had three words, much less four. However, I kept coming back to KIND and TYPE, and finally decided to try adding STYLE and ORT more on a hunch than any real certainty. He was right, but there was a lot of guesswork involved. And then my game stopped completely. I went away and did something else for a while, came back and was stumped again, then finally decided that DRIFT and IDEA might be related, and added a couple more to resolve the blue. But the purple one… well, even after seeing the answer, I don't really understand what a group is like. Although, again, there could be cultural differences at play here. ALA I understand, but what is STICK referring to? What is a TENDER? I am not lost…

What are NYT connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don't technically need to solve the final question since you'll be able to answer it through a process of elimination. What's more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little breathing room.
However, it's a little more complicated than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, be careful with homophones and other puns that could disguise answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
