I should say right off the bat that I'm a HUGE fan of the blue group in today's Connections. This is exactly the kind of challenge I'm looking for – it requires lateral thinking once again, plus a bit of general knowledge, and it's deeply satisfying to solve. We've seen a few of these before, and hopefully we'll see a lot more.
It was also a crucial solution for me, because I was completely stumped by the final two groups, having completed the two easiest ones (yellow and green) without any problems. In retrospect, I should have seen the “hedge” connection in the purple group, but for some reason it slipped my mind – the term HEDGE MAZE is not very common, so maybe that's why I didn't think to try it. Anyway, in the end it didn't matter, because after a long period of searching I realized that FRIEND, SCRUB, WEED and CHEER could all have an S added to the end to form four popular TV shows and I completed the puzzle.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
The plus side is that you don't technically need to solve the last one, as you'll be able to answer it by process of elimination. Plus, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of wiggle room.
However, it is a bit more complex than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trick you with tricks. For example, beware of homophones and other wordplay that could disguise the answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
