Damn you, NYT. Putting WIND in a puzzle along with BLOW, AIR DRAFT, GUST, and BLOW is guaranteed to cause trouble with anyone stupid enough to fall for your trap, and that's exactly what I did. Damn you!
To make matters worse, that yellow group was the easiest of the four today, though it was the one that cost me two mistakes. I had already figured out the Dr. Seuss connection for purple, with POP (on socks), CAT (on hat), and GRINCH, but I couldn’t figure out what the last one was. So I dropped it and focused on the others, and after my brief foray into incorrect wind-related answers, I was able to solve yellow and green.
That left five answers: BULL, LION, TURTLE, CRAB, and RAM. One went with Dr. Seuss, the other four made up the blue group. I thought about it for a long time, then I saw the zodiac group and was able to play TURTLE to fill in the default purple. And in case you're wondering, it was Yertle the turtle…

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
The plus side is that you don't technically need to solve the last one, as you'll be able to answer it by process of elimination. Plus, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of wiggle room.
However, it is a bit more complex than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trick you with tricks. For example, beware of homophones and other wordplay that could disguise the answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
