Today's NYT Connections (Set #466): The Answers
The answers to today's Connections game, number 466, are…
- YELLOW: PREFIX THAT MEANS “VERY” EXTRA, HYPER, OVER, SUPER
- GREEN: TYPES OF PARTIES BIRTHDAY, COCKTAIL, DINNER, SURPRISE
- BLUE: PBS PROGRAMS FRONT LINE, MASTERPIECE, NATURE, NOVA
- PURPLE: PLACES IN FRANCE ANGERS, CHAMPAGNE, NICE, REUNION
- My rating: Moderate
- My rating: Perfect
Today’s connections really got my brain working, which, I suppose, is the intention. Green (TYPES OF PARTIES) wasn’t difficult, with BIRTHDAY, COCKTAIL, DINNER, and SURPRISE being the most prominent, but I found yellow and blue harder. The problem was largely a distraction, with NOVA and SUPER and HYPER sounding like they could go together, but I eventually settled on the PREFIX MEANING “VERY” angle and solved yellow.
That left blue and violet, and there I was stuck. Maybe if I'd watched American TV I'd have had a better chance with PBS SHOWS, but I'm in the UK and so I don't really know shows like MASTERPIECE and FRONTLINE. Instead, my attention was drawn to ANGERS, a strange word for Connections, and one that didn't seem to go with anything else. But the word NICE was also bothering me, and I knew that CHAMPAGNE is a French place too, so I put them together with REUNION and ANGERS and solved for violet.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
The plus side is that you don't technically need to solve the last one, as you'll be able to answer it by process of elimination. Plus, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of wiggle room.
However, it is a bit more complex than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trick you with tricks. For example, beware of homophones and other wordplay that could disguise the answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
