Earlier today, some reports generated excitement around the possibility that Microsoft had accidentally missed the Windows 11 24H2 release date and that the update was imminent, but that's not the case.
This originally came from hackerswho noticed a Blog entry written by Microsoft for IT professionals on the topic of enhanced data protection with Windows and Copilot.
In that post, Microsoft said that Copilot-related updates will “align with the annual Windows 11 feature update release,” which clearly means Windows 11 24H2. And we were told that those Copilot updates would arrive in preview on September 24, 2024, with the full release coming on October 8.
So, it was quickly (and understandably) concluded that the Windows 11 24H2 update should also arrive on October 8th, if the release of 24H2 and these Copilot-related updates lined up as Microsoft told us. All pretty straightforward, right? Well, no…
Mistakes were made
Microsoft has just updated the blog post to explain in no uncertain terms: “The dates listed below are for our regular monthly servicing updates for supported versions of Windows 11 and are not related to when Windows 11, version 24H2 becomes generally available.”
Mention of alignment with the annual Windows 11 update has been removed from the post, so clearly Microsoft made a mistake here (though it doesn't directly admit it).
When it finally arrives, Windows 11 24H2 will bring a host of new features, including support for Wi-Fi 7 (which will only be useful if your PC and router hardware also support it) and some nifty changes on the AI front. That includes Copilot becomes an appallowing you to resize its window and move the wizard around the desktop.
