Blumhouse TV documentary about serial squatters The worst roommate ever It was a huge hit for Netflix and now there's a spin-off: The worst ex ever. Like its predecessor, the show relies heavily on witness statements to tell the story, and covers multiple stories – there are four in this first season.
We know this because the trailer (see below) uses a combination of animation, stills, police body camera footage, and interviews with people speaking in a fast-cut style, and while the trailer does strike me as a bit voyeuristic, it's undoubtedly effective and has the potential to be one of the best true crime shows on Netflix.
Blumhouse is best known for its horror films, such as Insidious, Five nights at Freddy's and M3GANbut this new true crime show is based on real events and real people. This is the first Blumhouse TV franchise and there will be four-hour episodes.

What is Worst Ex Ever about?
According to Netflix, the new show is “built around the universal feeling of wondering how much you really know about your partner” and offers “shocking stories of betrayal, violence, and deceit.” Comprised of compelling testimonies, body camera footage, and animated reenactments, The worst ex of all time “reveals the disturbing stories of monstrous past relationships.”
Speaking to Variety, Gretchen Palek, director of alternative television programming at Blumhouse TV, said that after The worst roommate ever When it premiered in 2022, the next logical topic was exes: “What could be more relatable than exes?” she asked. However, while she enjoyed online trends like the viral “Who the F**k Did I Marry?” story, they weren’t the inspiration for the show. “I love scanning social media for those kinds of trends, but we really felt like ‘Roommate’ resonated because of universal relatability,” she said. “And we feel like most people feel like their ex is bad, but on our show, our exes are really the worst.”
The worst roommate ever It was a huge hit for Netflix and did well online, but it did receive some scathing reviews: The Guardian said that “this could officially be the worst true crime show ever” and called it “a serialised, patterned true crime documentary so impersonal it seems to have been conceived by robots”. Even TechRadar itself said to avoid the Netflix true crime saga because it let its victims down. Can a new spin-off right these wrongs and become one of the best Netflix documentaries?
You will be able to find out on August 14, 2024 when The worst ex of all time is streaming on Netflix.
