Google has announced that its AI-powered generative assistant Gemini will be included in Google Workspace Business, Enterprise and Frontline plans, significantly expanding the platform’s user base.
The offering promises compliance with an organization's security and privacy policies and additional controls for IT administrators.
Aparna Pappu, general manager and vice president of Google Workspace, explained that the company hopes to make the long-promised productivity benefits of GenAI accessible to even more workers.
Gemini is now available for select Google Workspace plans
Those who want to integrate Gemini into their office suite will still need to purchase an add-on, which costs from $20 per month or annually for a Gemini Business subscription.
As a business-focused product, Google promises not to use organizational data, user input, or generated responses to train or improve its AI models. Administrators will also have control over how long Gemini stores user-generated content to help businesses comply with their data retention policies.
Additionally, SOC 1/2/3, ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications plus HIPAA support announced in early 2024 should also put Gemini in the hands of more users, particularly in highly regulated industries like healthcare and finance.
To coincide with the Gemini for Workspace updates, Google also launched a new security advisory tool designed to provide administrators with actionable recommendations against cyber threats and other security-related issues.
According to internal research into Gemini usage, users saved an average of 105 minutes per week. Three-quarters of Gemini daily users also noted that their work quality had improved.
