Microsoft Teams users looking for a more private, but also slightly stylish, way to spice up their backgrounds during a video call may have to wait a little longer, a new update from the company has revealed.
The video conferencing service had been working on a new feature that brought a “frosted glass” effect to Microsoft Teams backgrounds, offering additional privacy for those users who weren't willing to show their living quarters.
However, the feature has now been removed from the release cycle, at least for the time being, as Microsoft looks to make some potential changes or alterations.

“We will not be rolling out this feature at this time and will make a further announcement when we have an updated schedule,” says the entry in the official Microsoft 365 roadmap for the feature.
Having originally been added to the roadmap in May 2023, the update was due to begin rolling out in March 2024. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason why such a feature would be removed, from what we assume. The delay is due to a technical problem or something internal to Microsoft.
The delay may be a disappointment for Microsoft Teams users who are hoping for a little more personalization and privacy on their calls. The update would have allowed users to combine graphics with a blur effect using the PNG image format, which typically displays graphics on a transparent background.
Including such formatting would have allowed the transparent area to become blurred and the graphic itself would form the main background effect.
“Frosted Glass is a type of background effect that helps users maintain their privacy with a blurred background, but in a more professional and creative way,” the company added.
TechRadar Pro has contacted Microsoft for comment and will monitor any additional changes to the roadmap entry.
