Apparently someone at Lenovo considers himself a mad scientist. A recent leak suggests the company is working on a new Tab P12 tablet that houses a mix of features including a matte paper-like display similar to that found on an e-reader.
It's aptly called the Tab P12 Matte Display and we like to think of it as a tablet-shaped chimera because there's a lot going on. According to Windows Report, it has a 12.7-inch LCD screen capable of generating an image with 3K resolution (2944 x 1840 pixels). That sounds great at first, but the article images that show colors will look quite dull. They won't be as bright or vivid as what you'd experience on an OLED tablet. Although he still has a lot to do.
The Lenovo device is said to have an anti-glare coating that ensures crystal clear clarity under direct sunlight. Additionally, the paper-like nature of the screen allows it to be easy on the eyes. Having these two features together allows the Tab P12 Matter to potentially be a solid work tablet.
The images show the device used in various ways, but it appears to be primarily for content creation. Windows Report in its coverage indicates that it will support multiple Lenovo accessories, such as the P12 keyboard pack, Folio case, and the company's Tab Pen Plus. Combine all this with the unique nature of the screen “and you get a note-working machine that feels much more natural than a typical tablet.”
Specifications and potential features
The spec sheet in the leak hints that the Tab P12 is a solid entertainment device even if the colors will be muted. It has a 16:10 aspect ratio and a Quad JBL speaker array certified for Dolby Atmos. Under the hood, it will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset, 8GB of RAM, and will include 128GB of storage. Storage space is “expandable up to 1TB thanks to SD card support.”
Looking at these specs, it's clear that Lenovo's upcoming tablet isn't designed for gaming. The refresh rate is capped at 60Hz. The hardware configuration is not very powerful. However, it should handle work tasks and media consumption with relative ease.
Other notable features include a 13MP front camera with AI tracking, a nine-hour battery life, and a fingerprint sensor for security. The Tab P12 is planned to run on Android 13 at launch with four years of security updates.
The leak does not mention when the Lenovo tablet will be launched or what the price will be. Windows Report theorizes that it could cost as much as the current Tab P12 model, which starts at $270. Of course, take this information with a grain of salt. As with any leak, things can always change.
