We loved the Lenovo Legion Go when we first reviewed it, but one of the main negatives we noticed was its considerable bulk. Now, it looks like Lenovo might address that concern with a new “Lite” version of the Legion Go, featuring a smaller seven-inch display, dual fans, and more.
Interestingly, we only know this because Lenovo appears to have leaked the details by accident. The information was discovered by Reddit user methylmorphia, who noticed it in an FAQ section at the bottom of the official Lenovo Legion Go webpage. The details were present when we first checked the site, but they appear to have been removed shortly after. Thankfully, they’ve been captured on an archived version of the page.
In the FAQ (under the heading “What size screen is on the Lenovo Legion Go?”), Lenovo describes its portable gaming console as having seven- and eight-inch options. However, for now, you can only get the Legion Go with an 8.8-inch display.
That could suggest that two models are actually on the way: seven-inch and eight-inch versions to replace the 8.8-inch model. Either that or the eight-inch size mentioned on Lenovo's website refers to the 8.8-inch version.
However, in different sections of the FAQ, an HDMI connection and a dual-fan cooling system are also mentioned, two features that are not present in the current model of the Legion Go. Those new features could be attractive upgrades for users, if they arrive with a new version of the console.
In other words, it’s possible that someone at Lenovo got ahead of themselves and updated the official Legion Go website ahead of time. As a result, details of an upcoming model may have leaked online, ruining the surprise before Lenovo made a formal announcement.
'Lite' model on the way?
This isn't the first time we've heard some of these details. Back in May, Windows Central reported that a new handheld called the Legion Go Lite was in development and speculated that it could come with a smaller screen or a lower price tag. Thanks to Lenovo's self-inflicted leak, we now have details that seem to confirm some of the rumors surrounding the Legion Go Lite.
According to VideoCardz, this information was added to Lenovo's website “several weeks ago.” Interestingly, it seems that no one had noticed until now. The details appeared after the launch of the new Legion Go, implying that they refer to a completely different product.
There's no word yet on when the new Legion Go model (or models) might be released, so we'll have to wait and keep an eye on the latest rumors. When (or if) they arrive, it'll be fascinating to see if they can adequately address the concerns facing the current Legion Go.
