The latest reports about a possible PS5 Pro claim that the mid-gen upgrade console is still on track to launch this year and yes, it will probably cost you an arm and a leg.
As GameSpot reports, the reports come from reporter Jeff Grubb, who spoke about the PS5 Pro on a recent episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast. During the episode, Grubb stated that: “Last I heard, this thing [PS5 Pro] “It will still be coming out this year.”
Grubb also notes that a State of Play presentation could be coming soon: “More recently, what I've heard is that there will probably be a State of Play, not a Showcase, at the end of September,” he says.
To be clear, Grubb doesn’t specify whether the PS5 Pro will make its debut at this potential State of Play presentation. But there’s certainly a chance that it will if the PS5 Pro is scheduled to launch in the coming months — most likely around the holiday season. Lastly, Grubb estimates that the PS5 Pro could cost around $600, but he doesn’t rule out a price tag as high as $700 for the upgraded hardware.
If Sony is set to release a PS5 Pro this year, it would have gotten a jump on Microsoft when it comes to mid-range upgrade releases. Team Green has new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S hardware on the way, including an all-digital Xbox Series X, a white variant of the 1TB Xbox Series S, and a special edition Series X with 2TB of storage and a unique galaxy pattern. We even have a new Xbox console pre-order guide for those machines launching in October if you’re interested in grabbing one of those new models.
