While we all wait for an eventual presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2The company appears to be working on another device. A new wireless device made by Nintendo has been Seen making its way through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) In the United States.
And no, it's not the Nintendo Switch 2, as the device is simply labeled as a “wireless device” and there's no mention of the word console. However, it does have a similar ID, CLO-001, which ends in 001, which is similar to the Nintendo Switch (HAC-001), Change OLED (HEG-001), and Lite Switch (HDH-001).
Thanks to a diagram showing where the model number and FCC label will appear, we know this device will be shaped like a rounded square with an indentation containing this information on the back. Inside, it’s missing a battery and a ton of connectivity, as it only features a 24GHz mmWave sensor and a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi antenna. It also doesn’t have a battery, meaning it must be connected via the USB-C port.
However, we're left with more questions than answers beyond a diagram showing where the FCC ID will be placed: as an indentation in the plastic of a square-shaped device. TheVerge notes that the built-in mmWAve sensor “could be a radar sensor for tracking motion,” meaning it could be more of an add-on peripheral.
Your guess, like ours, is as good as yours at this point as to what this mysterious Nintendo device might be. It could be a new accessory for a game, perhaps a health or fitness push like the Wii Fit of many years ago, or something for more internal purposes.
After all, Nintendo is partnering with Universal for Super Mario World in Japan and California, and another version is set to launch in Florida in 2025. If you're still waiting for the next-gen Nintendo Switch, check out our guide for everything we know about the rumored console here.
