While the specs of the iPhone 16 line will surely increase relative to the iPhone 15 series, it is less clear whether their prices will also increase or not.
Some years prices go up, others they don't, and there's even the remote possibility that they might go down. To make matters even more complicated, Apple sometimes raises prices in some regions and not in others.
So, we can't say for sure yet what price you'll have to pay for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, or iPhone 16 Pro Max. That said, between rumors and past events, we can make some predictions.
iPhone 16 price predictions
A good place to start predicting the price of a phone is the price of the previous model, and you can see how much the iPhone 15 costs in different configurations in the chart below.
Storage | Price in USA | Price in the UK | Australian price |
128 GB | $799 | £799 | 1,499 Australian dollars |
256 GB | $899 | £899 | 1,699 Australian dollars |
512 GB | $1,099 | £1,099 | AU$2,049 |
Apple doesn't typically lower prices on new models, so you'll likely pay at least this amount for the iPhone 16. But it's not impossible that the price could be lower, especially since a report from mid-2023 suggested that Apple would switch its A17 Pro chipset to a more affordable production process at some point this year.
This is relevant because the A17 Pro is likely to power the standard iPhone 16, and if Apple reduces the production cost of the chipset, it's possible the company could make the phone cheaper for customers as well.
We doubt it though. Apple will most likely pocket the savings or put them toward other improvements, and this is an old leak anyway, so it may not be accurate.
We're likely to see a price hike, especially since a report from October 2023 claimed that the production costs of the iPhone 15 line are higher than the iPhone 14 series.
Despite that, Apple has generally kept prices the same for the latest phones, but if production costs continue to rise, then a price increase for upcoming phones seems likely.
We're not expecting a dramatic increase, but somewhere between the iPhone 15's starting price of $799 / £799 / AU$1,499 and a starting price of around $899 / £899 / AU$1,649 is our best guess for the iPhone 16.
iPhone 16 Plus Price Predictions
The situation with the iPhone 16 Plus is likely to be very similar to the iPhone 16, in that if one of these models increases or decreases in price, the other will likely follow suit, too.
But let's start by looking at how much the iPhone 15 Plus costs, which you can see in the chart below.
Storage | Price in USA | Price in the UK | Australian price |
128 GB | $899 | £899 | 1,649 Australian dollars |
256 GB | $999 | £999 | 1,849 Australian dollars |
512 GB | $1,199 | £1,199 | 2,199 Australian dollars |
If pricing is the same for the iPhone 16 Plus (as it may well be), then you'll be paying a starting price of $899 / £899 / AU$1,649.
However, the same factors that affect the price of the standard iPhone 16 could affect this model – that is, if the chipset becomes cheaper (as has been rumored), the price could come down. But if production costs increase (as they very well could, given that they apparently did last year), the price is likely to go up, at least in some regions.
In that case, the initial price could reach $999, £999 or AU$1,799. We think that's more likely to happen than a price drop.
iPhone 16 Pro Price Predictions
While it's possible that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will see a price increase, it seems even more likely that the iPhone 16 Pro will. We'll explain why in a moment, but first let's look at how much the iPhone 15 Pro costs — you can see the full price in the chart below.
Storage | Price in USA | Price in the UK | Australian price |
128 GB | $999 | £999 | 1,849 Australian dollars |
256 GB | $1,099 | £1,099 | AU$2,049 |
512 GB | $1,299 | £1,299 | 2,399 Australian dollars |
1TB | $1,499 | £1,499 | AU$2,749 |
So this is likely the minimum price the iPhone 16 Pro will cost, but there’s a good chance it will cost more. For one, the cheaper chipset that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could have (detailed above) won’t make it to the iPhone 16 Pro, as that phone will almost certainly have a new (and expensive) A18 Pro chipset.
There are no leaks suggesting any kind of price drop at the moment, but with production costs rising across the iPhone 15 lineup, the price could well increase.
Additionally, a leak suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro Max (and possibly the iPhone 16 Pro as well) will feature a new type of camera lens. This lens would have some advantages, but it would also cost more to manufacture, an increase that could well add to the phone's price.
So while we think the iPhone 16 Pro will cost at least $999 / £999 / AU$1,849, there's a strong chance it will cost more – we'd guess we could see a starting price of around $1,099 / £1,099 / AU$1,999.
iPhone 16 Pro Max Price Predictions
Of all the iPhone 16 models, it's the iPhone 16 Pro Max that's most likely to see a price increase relative to its predecessor.
In this case, much the same thing applies as with the iPhone 16 Pro, namely that no leaks point to a lower price, and the increased production costs may well mean a price increase, especially since one leak (detailed above) has specifically suggested that it could use a more expensive camera lens.
Storage | Price in USA | Price in the UK | Australian price |
256 GB | $1,199.99 | £1,199 | AU$2,199 |
512 GB | $1,399.99 | £1,399 | AU$2,549 |
1TB | $1,599.99 | £1,599 | AU$2,899 |
How much are we talking about? Well, at the very least, we think the iPhone 16 Pro Max will cost the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, whose prices you can see in the chart above.
But given that camera lenses are likely to be more expensive and production costs in general are on the rise, we think a starting price of around $1,299 / £1,299 / AU$2,349 might be more likely.
There's also talk of an iPhone 16 Ultra, which could launch instead of or alongside the iPhone 16 Pro Max. We're not entirely sure we'll see that, but if we do, it'll likely cost more than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
